“...pure beauty, a soprano full of light, controlled and intelligently used.”

As a singer, I can never be more than what I am.

But I can be just that; exactly what I am.

I love the simplicity of making music; my body as my instrument.

Whatever love, or sadness, fragments of truth or lies I tell, my audience feels instinctively.

This is why music is so powerful; it is communication distilled.

Since graduating from the Eastman School of Music and the Universität Mozarteum, young American-born soprano Leigh Michelow has been making a name for herself in the German speaking world as a first class interpreter of lied and baroque repertoire.

She has appeared at festivals ranging from Philippe Herreweghe’s Accademia della Crete Sinesi to the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alte Musik, and under directors such as Kobie van Rensburg, Ludwig Baumann, and J.M. Condemi.  Her debut recording was published in 2014 in coordination with Innsbruck-based ensemble NovoCanto, as part of their continuing project in partnership with the Tyrolian Ferdinandeum to unearth and record previously unknown works.

She also presents a strong presence in lied and concert, having been chosen as a participant by Barbara Bonney and Thomas Hampson for the Heidelberg Frühling Festival Leid Akademie.

In 2020 she won first prize at the Concorso Internationale die Musica Sacra di Roma, leading to engagements singing Haydn's Creation in Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, and elsewhere.

2021 saw her a semi-finalist for the role of Amina at the Concours Internationale du Chant Clermont Ferrand.

Leigh is currently based in Munich, Germany, where she also offers coaching in the F.M. Alexander Technique.
